Strengthening Movements: ISDAO’s Impact and Updates for the Final Year of the Love Alliance

Dear partners, colleagues, and supporters of the Love Alliance,

Since the launch of the Love Alliance initiative in 2021, we have awarded 171 grants to organizations, networks, and consortia across Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and the broader West African sub-region through our participatory grantmaking process and strategic initiatives.

To date, through the Love Alliance, we have provided 5.5 million U.S. Dollars in direct grants to support the movements of LGBTQI people, People Who Use Drugs (PWUD), and Sex Workers.

Additionally, we have facilitated the participation of activists from these communities in key regional and global forums.

Four years in, through dedicated, participatory, and collaborative work, we are especially proud of all we’ve achieved together within the Love Alliance, thanks to your continued support and commitment.

In our third and fourth grantmaking cycles in 2022 and 2023, our grantmaking panels awarded several multi-year grants that extend until September 2025 to partners in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and the partners working at a regional level in the broader West African sub-region. These multi-year grants empower groups and organizations to plan, organize, and operate more sustainably, providing the stability needed to strengthen their initiatives, expand their reach, and make a lasting impact within their communities.

For the final year of the Love Alliance, we have decided to strategically allocate the available resources to further support and strengthen collaborative movement-building in the Sex Worker (SW) and People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) communities, to build on the momentum and deepen existing work and collective efforts.

The LGBTQI movement remains at the heart of ISDAO’s mission and core commitment. Beyond the Love Alliance, and in addition to our annual Regional grants, we will also provide strategic grants to the LGBTQI movement as part of joint initiatives across ISDAO's nine focal countries, including Burkina Faso and Nigeria. More details about these new opportunities will be shared soon.

Together, through the Love Alliance’s engagement in West Africa, we have structured and strengthened the capacities of countless diverse groups, strengthened cross-community collaboration and intersectional organizing, identified and implemented advocacy priorities, and developed transformative initiatives that advance the rights and health of our communities.

We remain dedicated to working alongside you in our shared mission to strengthen our movements. Thank you for your trust and support, and let’s continue this journey together in the final year of the Love Alliance.

With our heartfelt gratitude,
Everything is Love
